overview
“English in Action” is a course designed to equip students with practical language skills necessary in various everyday situations. This course focuses on developing all four language skills—reading, writing, listening, and speaking—in a balanced manner, with a particular emphasis on improving communication skills in real-world settings.
Throughout the course, students engage in participatory, interactive activities and use “authentic materials” that are actually used in real-world situations. This helps them develop the ability to accurately understand and communicate in English in a wide range of contexts. The curriculum is diverse and covers a wide range of topics, including self-introductions, conversations about family and friends, topics about hobbies and interests, ordering at restaurants, shopping, making travel arrangements, and asking for directions.
Our instructors employ a “communicative approach” (a teaching method that emphasizes dialogue), encouraging students to actively participate in pair work, group work, role-playing, and discussions. We also create a student-centered learning environment, providing ample opportunities for oral practice (speaking practice), as well as detailed exercises focused on grammar and vocabulary, and writing instruction.
Furthermore, we actively utilize multimedia resources such as audiovisual materials and online tools to improve listening and reading comprehension skills. By the time students complete this course, they will have gained confidence in expressing themselves in English, understanding natural spoken and written English from native speakers, and communicating effectively in various functional and social situations. This course aims to equip students with the practical language skills essential for smoothly navigating personal and professional life in an English-speaking environment.
