What is IELTS? IELTS or the International English Language Testing System is an examination taken by over 1.2 million candidates each year to start their journeys into international education and employment. IELTS is recognised by more than 6000 institutions across 120 countries. IELTS is owned, developed and delivered through the partnership of the British Council, IELTS Australia and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations.

IELTS consists of just one examination, no matter what level you are. Scores are calculated on a level of proficiency from 1 to 9. However, we strongly recommend that your level is Intermediate or above (B2-A2 on the Common European Framework scale). IELTS exams are available in two formats: General Training and Academic. All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking modules but different Reading and Writing  modules.

General training – for school, work or migration
The General Training format focuses on basic survival skills in a broad social and educational context. It is for those who are going to English-speaking countries to do secondary education, work experience or training programmes. People migrating to Australia, Canada and New Zealand must sit the General Training test.

Academic – Institutions of Higher and Further Education
The Academic format is for those who want to study or train in an English-speaking university or Institutions of Higher and Further Education. Admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses is based on the results of the Academic test.

IELTS Exam Preparation Courses at Easy School of English
The IELTS Examination Preparation course at Easy SL is divided into two daily parts.

Part 1: 20 lessons per week

As an IELTS course participant, you join our group (maximum 8 participants) General English Courses during which you are provided with the opportunity to develop your overall communicative English skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking.  These English lessons are also designed to help you improve your general ability in the English language by focusing on and improving grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.

Part 2: 10 lessons per week

IELTS participants are also placed in a group (again, maximum 8 participants) where attention is now paid exclusively to IELTS exam preparation. Working almost exclusively from IELTS Course Books and materials, you are trained to achieve a successful result with intensive practice in the different modules of the examination.  Training includes specific examination strategies, techniques and skills and working with past IELTS examination papers. The tutors are qualified teachers who are experienced in preparing learners for IELTS examinations.
NB: As an IELTS course participant, you should be at an Intermediate level or above (CEF B2, C1 or C2)

IELTS Exam Preparation Course Structure:
Listening - this section of the IELTS Course focuses on increasing your ability to understand spoken English in a variety of social, educational and training contexts. You benefit from intensive training in typical IELTS Listening Exam tasks such as filling in forms, completing diagrams, answering questions, completing sentences, etc.

Reading - You learn to extract general and specific information from various types of texts taken from, for example, newspapers, magazines, books (fiction and non-fiction), work contracts, office memos, employee guidelines or journals (depending on the format chosen). Specialised intensive training is given in successfully tackling IELTS Reading exam tasks

Writing – Depending on the test format you have chosen, you learn to interpret and write about, for example, diagrams, charts, graphs and tables, or to write different types of letters (formal, semi-formal and informal). You also learn to write logically and skilfully about opinions, issues and problems.

Speaking - this section of the IELTS exam is practiced in both an individual and a class context to give you the confidence and experience required in this module. You are trained to answer general questions for information, to speak on and develop a specific topic and to discuss abstract subjects.
